Defending champions Mumbai faced defeat in the very first match of Ranji Trophy-2024-25. Led by Ajinkya Rahane, Baroda defeated Mumbai by 84 runs.
Under the captaincy of Krunal Pandya, the Baroda team set Mumbai a target of 262 runs, but the Mumbai team were bowled out for 177 runs in the last innings.
Earlier, Baroda won the toss and batted first and scored 290 runs in the first innings. In reply, the Mumbai team could score only 214 runs. Baroda then scored 185 runs in the second innings to take a lead of 261 runs. The current season of Ranji has started from October 11. 16 matches are to be played in the first round.
Baroda's Bhargava Bhatt was the hero of the victory Bhargava Bhatt was the hero of Baroda's victory. The left arm spinner became the player of the match with 10 wickets in both innings. He took 6 wickets in the second innings. In the second innings, he took important wickets of Rahane, Iyer and Siddesh Lad. Bhargav Bhatt also took 4 wickets in the first innings.
Siddesh Lad's fifty did not work Mumbai were given a target of 262 runs to win. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 30 runs and Rahane and Prithvi Shaw were dismissed for 12 runs each. Siddesh Lad (59) definitely took Mumbai to 177 runs, losing 8 wickets for 137 runs. But his innings could not save the team from defeat.
There were four Test cricketers in the Mumbai team. Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur also played in this match from Mumbai. Baroda had only one cricketer (Krunal Pandya) with international experience. He played an important innings of 55 runs in the second innings.
From Mumbai, Siddesh Lad scored 59 runs in the second innings.
Goa, Haryana, Railways, Tamil Nadu and Sikkim start victoriously Goa, Haryana, Railways, Tamil Nadu and Sikkim have started the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy with wins. Goa won the first match by a big margin. Goa beat Manipur by 9 wickets. While Haryana defeated Bihar by an innings and 43 runs.
Railways beat Chandigarh by 181 runs. Tamil Nadu also beat Saurashtra by an innings and 65 runs. Nagaland beat Arunachal Pradesh by an innings and 290 runs. Sikkim opened their account by defeating Mizoran by 137 runs.
