PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen reach quarterfinals: Ira Sharma beats Sindhu at Syed Modi Championship in Lucknow

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have made it to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Syed Modi Badminton Championship at the BBD Stadium in Lucknow. Both the players registered a win in the match played on Thursday.

Ira Sharma took on PV Sindhu. After PV Sindhu won the first set, Ira made a comeback in the second set. At the same time, Lakshya Sen defeated Israel's Daniil Dubovenko, maintaining the lead throughout the match.

In the women's doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Christo defeated Taiwan's Su Yu Chen and Ann 21-19, 8-21 and 21-12. Priyanshu Rajawat has made it to the quarter finals by defeating Vietnam's Li Du Phat by a margin of 21-15, 21-8.

  • At the senior level, PV Sindhu defeated Ira Sharma 21-10, 12-21, 21-15 in a three-game thriller.
  • India's Unnati Hooda entered the next round with an upset over Thailand's Pornpicha Choikkewang 21-18, 22-20.
  • American Ishika Jaiswal defeated eighth seed Myanmar's Thet Hethar Thajar 11-21, 21-19, 21-17 in a three-game encounter.
  • China's D. Wang defeated India's Devika Sihag 21-14, 21-15.
  • India's Sriyanshi Wali Shetty caused an upset by defeating India's second seed Malvika Bansod 21-12, 21-15.

  • Eighth seed Ayush Shetty of India defeated Justin Hoh of Malaysia 21-12, 21-19.
  • India's top seed Lakshya Sen defeated Israel's Daniel Dubovenko 21-14, 21-13.
  • In the men's doubles, India's Ishan Bhatnagar and Shankar Prasad Udayakumar got a walkover against fourth seeds Qi He Chen and Peng Jian Qin of China.

Mixed Doubles

  • India's top seeded pair of B. Sumit Reddy and Sikki Reddy suffered an upset. The pair were beaten 19-21, 21-16, 21-13 by Malaysia's Lu Bing Koon and Ho Lo Yee in a marathon match that lasted 50 minutes.
  • China's Liao Pin Yi and Huang Ke Xin defeated the seventh seeded pair of Rohan Kapoor and Rutvika Shivani 21-18, 21-19.
  • China's fourth seeds Zhou Zihong and Yang Jia Yi beat India's Vishnu Sri Kumar and Aparna Balan 21-11, 21-12.
  • India's second seeds Satish Kumar Karunakaran and Adya Varyanath defeated India's selected Joshi and Kavya Gupta 21-18, 21-17.

Women's Doubles

  • The fifth seeded Indian pair of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra defeated India's Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi 21-15, 21-12.
