National Anti-Doping Agency issues notice to wrestler Vinesh Phogat: Failure to provide correct location information, 14 days to respond

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has sent a notice to wrestler Vinesh Phogat for not providing correct information about his residence. NADA has sought a reply from Vinesh within 14 days. In the notice, the agency told Vinesh that he erred in not disclosing her residential details as she was not available for the dope test at her home in Kharkhoda village in Sonepat on September 9.

NADA's notice reads: 'This notice is issued to inform you of your apparent failure to comply with the venue information requirements under the Anti-Doping Rules and to seek your feedback before a final decision is made in the matter. A Dope Control Officer (DCO) was sent to the venue to test you that day, but could not do so as you were not present at the venue.

All players included in NADA's Registered Testing Pool (RTP) are required to report their availability for dope tests. If they are not available at the location provided by the player, it is considered a failure to report their whereabouts. NADA can only charge an athlete if he violates venue information rules three times in a 12-month period.

Now what next?

  • Vinesh will either have to admit the violation or provide evidence that she was present at the spot for about 60 minutes.
  • Vinesh may say that failure related to accommodation is not an anti-doping rule violation.
