The auction for the third season of the South African League SA20 has taken place. About 200 cricketers were shortlisted for this. Among them, 6 franchises of the league have included 13 players in their respective teams.
Opener Riza Hendixon was bought by auction MI Cape Town for Rs 2.7 crore on Tuesday. While former captain Temba Bavuma has not found a buyer.
The next season of SA20 will start from January 9 and will be played till February 8. The last two seasons of the league were won by Sunrisers Eastern Cape under the captaincy of Aidan Markram.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Durban Super Giants by 89 runs to win the 2024 title. The team also became champions in the first season in 2023.
Who bought who in the SA20 2025 auction?
- MI Cape Town: Riza Hendricks (2.7 crores), Dan Pidt (8.4 lakhs) and Colin Ingram (8.4 lakhs), Tristan Luce (Rookie).
- Pretoria Capitals: Evin Lewis (38.7 lakhs), Marcus Ackerman (72.6 lakhs), Kyle Simmonds (8.4 lakhs), Keegan Lyon-Cachet (rookie).
- Joburg Super Kings: Vihan Lubbe (8.4 lakhs) and Evan Jones (8.4 lakhs), Doug Bracewell (8.4 lakhs), JP King (rookie).
- Sunrisers Eastern Cape: Okuhle Salle (8.4 lakhs) and Richard Gleason (1.1 crores).
- Paul Royals: Wicketkeeper Rubin Harman (8.4 lakhs), Dwayne Morris (Rookie).
- Durban Supergiants: Samar Joseph (20.5 lakhs), CJ King (rookie).
Hendrix the most expensive, Joseph sold for 20 lakhs Reeza Hendricks became the most expensive player sold in this auction with a price of 2.7 crores. Apart from this, West Indies fast bowler Samar Joseph was signed by Durban Super Giants for the lowest price of 20.5 lakh rupees.
In this auction, MI Cape Town, Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings franchise bought 3 players each, while Durban Super Giants bought one player.
Bavuma and Mendis remained unsold South African Test captain Temba Bavuma and Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu Mendis were not bought by any franchise in this auction. Bavuma has scored 3102 runs in 59 Test matches including 2 centuries and 21 fifties. He has 1572 runs to his name in ODIs and 670 runs in T20 Internationals. Then it remained unsold in the auction. On the other hand, Ireland's Joshua Little, who has played in the IPL, has also remained unsold.
Kamindu Mendis has done well in Test cricket for Sri Lanka this year and is the highest batsman to score 5 Test centuries in the year 2024. No franchise showed interest in buying him either.
