Medals May Come Today at Paris Paralympics 2024: Tokyo Paralympics Gold Medal Winner in Action; Para badminton player Mansi Joshi lost

The Paris Paralympics 2024 Games began on Friday. India's Mansi Joshi lost in the second match of the group stage in para badminton women's singles. She was defeated by Ukraine's Oksana Kozina 10-21, 21-15, 32-21. Earlier, she lost in the first match against Indonesian No.1 ranked Konita Syakuroh. The Indian team has a chance to win a medal today. Tokyo Paralympics gold-winning shooter Avni Lakhera will be in action today. Meanwhile, Karamjyoti and Sakshi Kasana are also expected to medal in the final of the women's discus throw F-55 event. Preity Pal will compete in the women's 100m T-35 final. Manu will play in the men's shot put F-37 final. Arshad Shaikh will compete in Men's C-2 3000m Individual Pursuit Qualifying. Para Archer Sheetal Pre-Quarter Finals Indian archer Sheetal Devi finished second in the ranking round of the women's compound individual event at the Paris Paralympics. 17-year-old Sheetal, who is participating in Paralympics for the first time, has secured 703 marks out of 720. She fell just one point short of setting the world record. Curie Girdi of Turkey set a new world record of 704 points and finished first in the ranking round. There are very few archers in the world who practice archery without hands. Sheetal is one of three archers at the Paralympics who will be shooting archery with the help of legs. Sheetal won a silver medal in the World Championship. This time she is competing in mixed and singles events. Now competing with archers from Chile or Korea, Sheetal Devi's second-place finish in the ranking round earned her a direct spot in the last-16. Sheetal will play the winner of the match between Chile's Mariana Zuniga and Korea's Choi Na Mi in the pre-quarterfinals. Zuniga won a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. She finished 15th in the ranking round. Sheetal has lost both hands since birth, due to which she does archery with her feet. Another Indian archer Sarita Devi scored 682 points and finished ninth. He will face Malaysia's Abdul Jalil in the first round. First Day Highlights India's men's para badminton stars Sukanth Kadam and Suhas Yathiraj registered impressive victories in their opening men's singles SL-3 matches. Earlier, in India's para badminton women's singles, Mansi Joshi lost in the third game to Indonesia's No. 1 seed Konita Syakuroh in the SL-3 category. India's Paralympics 2024 opened with an India vs India clash in para badminton as the mixed doubles pair of Nitish Kumar and Tulasimathi Murugesan defeated compatriots Suhas Yathiraj and Palak Kohli. However, after this the duo of Sivarajan Solaimalai and Nitya Sri Sivan had to face defeat. While India's Jyoti Gaderia missed out on qualifying for the medal round in para track cycling, while Tarun registered an easy win in Group D in para badminton, Aruna Tanwar suffered a defeat in para taekwondo.
