Mahmudullah announces retirement from T-20: Will play last match against India in Hyderabad; Shakib also retired this year

The year 2024 is proving to be the retirement year of the legendary players of Bangladesh cricket. After former captain Shakib Al Hasan, Batter Mahmudullah has also announced his retirement from the T20 format. He will bid farewell to the shortest format with the last match of the ongoing series against India. This match will be played on October 12 in Hyderabad.

ODIs will continue to be played The 38-year-old Mahmudullah retired from the Test format in 2021 itself. He will continue to play ODIs, having been the team's top scorer during the ODI World Cup in India last year. His sights are now on the Champions Trophy. Before that Bangladesh team will also play 3 ODI series against West Indies.

Mahmudullah announced his retirement during a press conference at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Mahmudullah said – had already planned to retire Mahmudullah said, 'I had already thought about my retirement. Even before coming to India, I had discussed this with the captain and the coach. After discussing with both, I informed the BCB president of my decision. I think this is the right time to retire from the T20 format, I will now focus fully on ODIs.

The loss against India hurt a lot Mahmudullah said on his career, 'The 1-run defeat against India in the T-20 World Cup still hurts me a lot. That defeat taught me a lot. The best moment of my career came against Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy.

In the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, Mahmudullah scored an 18-ball 43 against Sri Lanka to take Bangladesh to the final. Mahmudullah has scored 2395 runs and taken 40 wickets in 139 T20 matches for Bangladesh.

Mahmudullah said, the loss to India in the 2016 T20 World Cup taught him a lot.

T-20 debuted in 2007 Mahmudullah made his T20 debut against Kenya in 2007, a career spanning 17 years and 35 days. He had the longest career in T20 Internationals after Shakib Al Hasan and Zimbabwe's Shaun Williams.

Mahmudullah has played 9 T20 World Cups for Bangladesh.

Shakib also retired this year Shakib Al Hasan recently announced his retirement from the T20 and Test formats during the Test series against India. He said that he played his last T20 in the World Cup. He will also retire from the Test format after the home Test series against South Africa. The 37-year-old Shakib will also continue to play ODIs.
