Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been named the captain of the Jharkhand team for the Ranji Trophy 2024-2025 season. He did not play last season even after being ordered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He last captained the Jharkhand team in 2018-19.
Ishan was named in the Rest of India squad for the recently concluded Irani Cup. He scored 38 runs in the match played against Mumbai. However, he did not keep wickets. Dhruv Jurel, who was part of the team, played the role of wicketkeeper.
Apart from Ishan, Jharkhand team includes 2 wicketkeepers It is believed that Ishan will not keep wickets in Ranji as well. Two wicketkeepers including Kumar Kushagra and Anukul Roy have also been included in the squad. Jharkhand's first match is against Assam in Guwahati from October 11.
A comeback to domestic first class cricket after 2 years from the Duleep Trophy Ishan made a comeback to domestic first-class cricket after 2 years in the Duleep Trophy. He played first class cricket in the year 2022. Ishan was given a place in the India-C team in the Duleep Trophy.
2024 out of the central contract In February 2024, Ishan was dropped from BCCI's central contract for not prioritizing domestic cricket. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah then warned cricketers not playing in Team India that cricketers who are out of the team should participate in domestic cricket to get a place in the national team.
Ishan Kishan played his last match for India in December 2023.
Ishan out of Team India since December last year Ishan Kishan withdrew his name after joining the team on the tour of South Africa in December last year. He took a break from the national team due to personal reasons. Ishan did not play any competitive cricket for 2 months and now he has made a comeback from the DY Patil T-20 tournament in February.
Ishan was also not selected in the squad for the Test series against England. On the question of keeping him out, head coach Rahul Dravid said that Ishan has not made himself available yet. If he wants to make a comeback, he will have to perform well in domestic cricket.
Ishan is yet to play a single Ranji Trophy match for his home team Jharkhand. On the other hand, he started practicing with the Pandya brothers (Krunal and Hardik) in Baroda.
