Last date to retain players for IPL Mega Auction-2024 is Thursday, October 31. All the franchises will send the names of their retained players to the IPL Organizing Committee before 5 pm tomorrow.
With this list will be decided which player will play with which franchise? Not only this, former Indian captain MS Dhoni will also be out whether he will play the next IPL or not. Dhoni's way to play in the IPL was paved a month ago on September 28 by the BCCI's new retention policy of the IPL's uncapped placers rule. The uncapped rule which was discontinued in 2021 has been implemented this time.
The total budget of all 10 franchises for the mega auction is Rs 1200 crore. That means each franchisee has 120 crore rupees. Know everything about Mega Auction in 6 points…
1. New retention rule of IPL Now the franchise team will be able to retain 6 players before the IPL mega auction. In which maximum 5 international and 2 uncapped players can be included. An international player can be from any country, but an uncapped player must be from India only.
Suppose, Mumbai Indians retain 5 international players, then the team can now retain only one uncapped player as the sixth player. While the team will retain 4 international players, they will have the option to retain 2 uncapped players.
2. Modification of right-to-match cards Right to match i.e. RTM card has also returned in the auction. If the team wants, they can retain 6 players before the auction or the team can use 6 RTM cards in the auction. If a team retains 3 players, they will only have 3 RTM cards in the auction. Likewise, if 4 players are retained, 2 RTM cards will remain in the auction.
Right-to-match cards are given to the team in the auction. Suppose, Chennai Super Kings retained 5 players and they have one RTM card left. The team could not retain Moeen Ali. Now if Hyderabad buys Moeen in the auction for Rs 6 crore then Chennai can use his RTM card to keep Moeen in their team.
A new rule has been added to RTM this time, the bidding team will have the opportunity to increase the price of the player. As Hyderabad Moin on Rs. 6 crore bid and CSK used the RTM card, Hyderabad increased that price to Rs. 9 or Rs. 10 crores can do. Now if CSK use the RTM card they will have to buy Moeen at an inflated price. If CSK doesn't use the RTM card, Moeen will remain in Hyderabad at an inflated price.
In the 2018 mega auction, Bengaluru bought Yuzvendra Chahal on a right-to-match card.
3. 6 players will be retained for Rs 79 crore The purse limit of the IPL team has also been increased to Rs 120 crore, which was earlier Rs 100 crore. 18 crores will be spent on retaining the first player, Rs 14 crores on the second player and Rs 11 crores on the third player. If only 3 players are retained then the purse will cost Rs 43 crore.
If the team retains the fourth player, it will have to pay only Rs 18 crore. And for the fifth player will have to spend 14 crore rupees. Retaining an uncapped player will cost only Rs 4 crore each. The last date for submission of player retention is 31 October 2024 by 5 PM.
If the team retains 5 internationals and one uncapped player, it will cost Rs 79 crore from their purse. If the team retains 4 internationals and 2 uncapped players, the purse will cost Rs 69 crore. If only 5 international players are retained, the purse will cost Rs 75 crore.
4. Rules tightened for foreign players Now foreign players have to register in mega auction to participate in IPL. If they do not register, they will not be allowed to participate in the next mini auction. If any foreign player withdraws from the tournament after being sold in the auction, he will be banned for the next 2 seasons. This means that he will not be able to participate in the next two auctions. However, if a player gets injured, he will not be banned, but for this he will have to take the permission of his National Board.
5. Foreigners will not get more than ₹18 crore For the first time the IPL had a rule on the amount paid to foreign players. Foreign players will not get the highest retention value of more than Rs 18 crore in the mini auction. Or if the most expensive Indian player in the mega auction is Rs. 16 crore if sold for Rs. Not more than 16 crores.
Suppose, Mumbai Indians retained Suryakumar Yadav at the highest retention price of Rs 18 crores. Now even if Rinku Singh was the most expensive in the mega auction, his price remained only Rs 15 crore. So the foreign player will not get more than Rs 15 crore in the next mini auction.
At the same time, if Rinku Singh is bought for Rs 20 crore in the mega auction, MI's Surya won't fetch more than Rs 18 crore in the next mini auction. Here, foreign players will get the amount which is the lowest between the highest retention price and the mega auction.
However, the team can also buy foreign players by bidding Rs 20, 25 or 30 crores. The amount he bids will be deducted from his purse, but the player will get only Rs 15 or 18 crores. The remaining amount will go to the BCCI, which the board will spend on its players.
6. Dhoni will be able to play for Rs 4 crore due to the uncapped player rule The uncapped player rule also returned in the IPL. This rule was in effect from 2008 to 2021, but no one used it. Now she is making a comeback. Under this, the team can retain any Indian player who played his last international match 5 years ago as an uncapped player.
Like, former captain MS Dhoni who led Chennai Super Kings to 5 IPL titles. It has been 5 years since he played his last match for India in 2019. So, CSK can retain him as an uncapped player for just Rs 4 crore.
