Indian selectors have sought Mohammed Shami's fitness report from National Cricket Academy (NCA) physio Nitin Patel. Shami is currently playing for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Nitin Patel is with the team during the Bengal match to monitor Shami's fitness.
BCCI sources told Bhaskar that the selection committee has sought Mohammed Shami's fitness report. Based on the report, a decision will be taken whether to send Shami on the Australia tour or not.
The selectors were also present in the Ranji match Nitin Patel was also present along with the selectors to test Shami's fitness in the Ranji matches against Madhya Pradesh and Bengal. The fitness report at the time said Shami needed to play a few more domestic matches. After which Shami was included in the Bengal team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The Bengal team has now played 6 matches and Shami has bowled 23.3 overs.
Even during SMAT, selection committee members and physios were available to monitor Shami's fitness. The physio will submit his report to the BCCI soon. After which the team management and selection committee will decide on sending Shami to Australia.
Shami returned from the Ranji match after a year Shami returned to the field in a Ranji Trophy match after almost a year. He played a Ranji match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore from 13 to 16 November. Shami took 4 wickets in the first innings and 3 wickets in the second innings of the match. With the help of which Bengal defeated MP on his own home ground.
Underwent ankle surgery after ODI World Cup The 34-year-old Shami played the ODI World Cup final against Australia on 19 November 2023. After this he did not play any international match. In January this year, he underwent a foot surgery in England. For the past several months, Shami has been in a rehab camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. After which he returned from professional cricket in October.
