Horrific accident at age 11…paralysis: tried shooting with father's encouragement; Know who is Avni Lekhara who won two golds in a row

Three years ago, Avni made headlines with her performance in the SH1 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. He won gold in the 10m air rifle and bronze in the 50m rifle at the Tokyo Paralympics. Avni breaks her own record The highlight was that 22-year-old Avni Lekhara set a record by scoring 249.7 points in the Paralympics. Earlier, Avni had won a gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event at the Tokyo Paralympics. Avni Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win two gold medals at the Paralympics. Apart from this, she became the first Indian woman to win 3 medals in the Paralympics, which is also a unique record. Accident occurred at the age of 11 In 2012, at the age of 11, he suffered from complete paraplegia after a car accident. Paraplegia is a spinal cord injury that paralyzes the lower limbs. It results in severe damage to the spinal cord and nervous system. After this accident, Avni's father encouraged her to join sports. He trained in archery but took up shooting as his hobby. Currently she is studying law from Rajasthan University. She was a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya 3 (Jaipur), where she won her first gold medal in a regional shooting match. In shooting, the SH1 category includes shooters who have affected movement of their arms, lower torso, legs, or have problems with their arms or legs. He was awarded the Khel Ratna Award in the year 2021 for his outstanding performance in sports. Which is India's highest sporting honour. Playing Paralympics after surgery Five months before the Paris Paralympics, 22-year-old shooter Avni Lekhara underwent surgery to remove a gallstone. This pain also affected his training. So in March he decided to have the operation. After this operation, he has performed brilliantly in the Paralympics. His father Praveen Kumar Lekhara told 'Indian Express', 'Gallstones were bothering him since 2023. It also affected his training. She was troubled at the shooting range due to frequent pains around her stomach and waist. Avni wanted to give her best at the Paris Paralympics. So we decided to remove the gallbladder in March this year. It took some time to heal and it was a difficult time. PM Modi wrote on X- Congratulations to Avani Lekhara for winning the prestigious gold in the R2 Women's 10M Air Rifle SH1 event. He has also created history.
