The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday summoned former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Azhar has been accused of corruption during his tenure as president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). However, Azhar has completely denied these allegations.
ED has summoned Azhar for questioning today. An ED team is probing the irregularities in the HCA. ED has summoned Azhar based on the case already registered at Uppal police station.
The 61-year-old former cricketer has been accused of match-fixing earlier. Due to which BCCI also banned him. However, Azhar was later acquitted by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Former Indian captain Azhar is accused of embezzlement of Rs 20 crore.
3 FIRs registered, investigation underway According to the ED, officials of the Hyderabad Cricket Association committed financial irregularities in the construction of the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium. He awarded contracts to private companies at high rates and caused a loss of crores of rupees to the association. 3 FIRs have been registered in this matter and investigation is on.
Cricketer-turned-politician Azharuddin was appointed as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee in 2018. In 2009, he was an MP from Moradabad in UP on a Congress ticket.
