Devjit Saikia has become the new secretary of the BCCI, while Prabhatej Singh Bhatia has been elected as the treasurer. Both were elected unopposed at the BCCI's Special General Meeting (SGM) on Sunday. Saikia and Bhatia filed their nominations last week. No one else had filled the nomination form except him.
Saikia took over from former secretary Jai Shah last month in December. He was made the interim secretary. Jai Shah has been made the President of the ICC, due to which he has stepped down as the BCCI Secretary.
IPL-2025 to start from March 23: Rajeev Shukla After the meeting, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said – 'This SGM had only one agenda, the election of the BCCI Secretary.' He said that IPL-2025 will start from March 23.
Devjit Saikia has been the Joint Secretary of BCCI from 2019 to 2024.
Saikia is part of the Assam Cricket Association Devjit Saikia was made the interim secretary of BCCI on 6 December itself. It is part of the Assam Cricket Association. He replaced Jai Shah. Earlier there were reports that Arun Jaitley's son Rohan Jaitley would become the secretary, but it was only last month that the name of Joint Secretary Saikia surfaced.
On the other hand, Bhatia is part of the Chhattisgarh Cricket Association. He will replace Ashish Shelar as treasurer. Ashish became part of the Maharashtra government and as per the rules central and state government ministers cannot be part of BCCI.
Devjit Saikia attended the ICC meeting in Dubai last month as BCCI's representative.
Shah was honored at the SGM Announcing the results, Election Officer AK Joti said, 'The election of two office-bearers, Secretary and Treasurer, was uncontested and therefore no polling was required.' Shah was felicitated by the BCCI on Saturday. He was also welcomed at the SGM.
