Started playing chess at the age of 7 Gukesh's full name is Dommaraju Gukesh. He was born in Chennai to Rajinikanth and Padma. Father is an eye, nose and throat doctor by profession while mother is a microbiologist. Father Rajinikanth was a cricketer. Playing cricket during college days. He also gave trials for state level selection, but due to family pressure, he quit cricket and started studying medicine.

Gukesh started playing chess at the age of 7. Seeing his son's interest, Rajinikanth inspired him a lot. In order not to have any problem balancing sports and studies, he was exempted from regular studies after the fourth standard. In an interview, Rajinikanth said that since Gukesh started playing professional chess, he has not taken the annual test.

Father quit his job for Gukesh's career His parents also had to sacrifice a lot to bring Gukesh to this place. When Gukesh began to excel in chess, his father, a doctor by profession, had to quit his job, in fact, he could not spare time for patients due to tournaments abroad, so he closed his clinic.

The closure of the clinic limited his income. The burden of Gukesh's tournament and family expenses fell on Mata Padma. At that time Gukesh could not get sponsors while the cost of playing tournaments abroad was very high. In such a situation, you had to take loans many times to participate in the tournament.

In an interview, Gukesh's father Rajinikanth told an incident of a foreign tournament. When they took Gukesh to Europe in 2021, it took him around 4 months to get back to India. In fact Gukesh played 13 to 14 tournaments during this period. He had to miss the flight 3 times. Apart from chess, Gukesh also likes sports like cricket and badminton. He is very fond of eating.

Gukesh plays around 250 tournament matches in a year: Father According to his father, Gukesh plays around 250 tournament matches in a year while other players can't even play 150 matches, he slept with his father at the airport in 2020, financially good for his family.
