England appointed Brendon McCullum as the head coach of Test team, ODI and T-20 team. McCullum will take over ahead of the Champions Trophy in January next year. Under his coaching, the team will play its first series in India in the form of 5 T20s. McCullum was appointed England's Test coach in May 2022. Seeing the good results, the board extended his tenure till 2027. Now he will coach the team in ODIs as well. Marcus Trescothick will replace Matthew Mott as England's interim ODI coach against Australia and West Indies. Before him, Matthew Mott was the team's ODI and T-20 coach. McCullum will take charge from January 2025. Mott was England's permanent ODI and T20 coach, now McCullum will replace him. McCullum to take a break after the Sri Lanka series McCullum is currently in England, the team is playing a 3 test match series against Sri Lanka. England have taken a 2-0 lead in the series. The third Test will start from September 6. After the series against Sri Lanka, McCullum will take a break and go to New Zealand. McCullum will then join the team directly in October. The team will travel to Pakistan for a Test series in October. England are again scheduled to play a 3-Test series against New Zealand in December. Decision taken due to poor performance in ODI World Cup After winning the 2019 ODI World Cup, England were expected to perform well in the 2023 ODI World Cup as well. But the team could not make it to the semi-finals after losing to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The team somehow finished seventh in the points table, which also qualified them for the Champions Trophy. The England team could not even defend the T20 World Cup title in 2024. The team definitely reached the semi-finals, but had to be eliminated after losing to India. India also won the tournament title by defeating South Africa. Series against India in January The 5 T20 and 3 ODI series between India and England will begin in January-February next year. The first four T-20s will be held on January 22, 25, 28 and 31. The fifth T20 will be played on February 2. 3 ODIs will be played on February 6, 9 and 12. The Champions Trophy will resume in Pakistan from February 19. The tournament will be played till March 9.
