Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami has been included in the Bengal squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. After recovering from the injury, Shami returned to the field almost a year later in the Ranji Trophy. The tournament is starting from November 23. Bengal's first match will be against Punjab.

Shami took 7 wickets against Madhya Pradesh Shami was injured during the ODI World Cup last year and made his return to action after nearly a year in the Ranji Trophy. During his comeback, he took four wickets in the first innings and three in the second innings against Madhya Pradesh. After this match it was hoped that Shami would also be called to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy but it did not happen.
