Former Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket Team Mohammad Wasim has termed Babar Azam as stubborn. Not only this, Wasim claimed that 4 coaches had identified a group of players in the team as a harmful influence. Called him a cancer and warned that Pakistan would struggle to win with him in the team. Wasim also spoke about the experiences and difficulties of working with Babar as chief selector. The 46-year-old former cricketer said- 'Babar is very stubborn and often opposed the suggestions of changes in the team given by the selection committee.' Babar is currently part of the Pakistan squad for the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, though his performance has been poor. He could score only 64 runs in four innings of 2 matches. PCB made Babar Azam the captain of all formats in 2020. Under Babar's leadership, the team reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021 and the final in 2022, but subsequently resigned as captain after the team's poor performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Although the board returned the white-ball cricket captaincy to Babar Azam ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, the team's performance has been disappointing. Pakistan was eliminated after the group stage round after losing the matches against India and USA. PCB removed Wasim in December-2022 Pakistan Cricket Board removed Wasim from the post of Chief Selector in December 2022. He became the chief selector in December 2020. Wasim is currently working as the head coach of the Pakistan women's team.
