- The arrival of three new guests in the herd of elephants, the whole village under a spell of fear
The terror of elephants in Manpur area of Chhattisgarh is not stopping. A herd of about 45 elephants is camped in the area, causing fear among the villagers. There is a fear among the villagers that they form groups for outside work. Half of the group just looks out for safety. The reason behind camping in the area is that three more new guests have arrived in the herd of elephants.
Local Sukhsingh Kumar said that after around five in the evening, the entire village climbs onto the roof of the house. Those who do not have a paved house take shelter of others' roofs. The fear of elephants is so terrible that the entire village is forced to spend the night like this. Bhanu Shankar of Dhobipara says that elephants enter the village even during the day. Now even the road from school to home is not safe.
Employment and Traditional Work Stopped: The employment guarantee operation was expected to start after the rains, but the presence of elephants has stalled everything. Chindaula Panch Bhanwarsinh Sori says that the big project of Eklavya Vidyalaya has also stalled. The field crops have been destroyed. Traditional work like making bamboo baskets has also stopped. Now social, religious or family events are not happening due to the fear of elephants.
Save the girls at risk of life: Sundar Singh of Farsara had gone to bathe in the river with his two daughters when a herd of elephants arrived. The daughters were very close to the elephants, but Sunder Singh called from afar and attracted the elephant's attention. The elephant ran towards them and they somehow saved their lives by jumping into the drain.
Damage will be compensated: Forest Department SDO Rajendra Sori told Bhaskar that a case has been registered for crop damage in 60 acres of 30 farmers from 12 villages. Survey work is going on. Efforts are being made for compensation.
