Hockey India on Wednesday announced the 18-member Indian squad for the Asian Champions Trophy to be held in China. Harmanpreet Singh will captain the team in the tournament. 10 bronze medal winners in Paris Olympics have been given a place in this team. While 5 players have been rested. The tournament will be played from September 8 to 17 at Hulunbur, Inner Mongolia. India will play its first match against hosts China on September 8. The Indian team is the defending champion of this tournament. Last year, the team won the title by defeating Malaysia in the final match of the tournament. Hence the Indian team will defend their title in the tournament. Pathak-Karkera replaces Sreejesh with the goalkeeping responsibilities Veteran Indian hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh retired after the Paris Olympics. So Krishna Bahadur Pathak and Sooraj Karkera have been selected in place of Sreejesh for the goalkeeper role in the team. Indian team won bronze medal in Paris Olympics The Indian hockey team led by Harmanpreet Singh won the bronze medal in the recently concluded Paris Olympics. The Indian team defeated Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match. This was the second consecutive bronze medal for the Indian team at the Olympics. The team also won bronze by defeating Germany in the Tokyo Olympics.
