Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. Nabi will retire from ODI cricket after the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. However, Nabi will continue to play T20 cricket.
Nabi was recently named Player of the Series in the ODI series against Bangladesh. He scored 135 runs in 3 matches and also took 2 wickets.
Mohammad Nabi played an innings of 84 runs in the first match against Bangladesh.
Retirement was on my mind since 2023 World Cup: Nabi The former Afghanistan captain said that since the 2023 World Cup, I had thought of retirement, but we qualified for the Champions Trophy and I thought it would be good for both the team and me if I play here. After the last match against Bangladesh, he told the broadcaster, “I have spoken to the Afghanistan Cricket Board about this and I will continue to play T20 cricket.”
ODI cricket started in 2009 Nabi, 38, made his ODI debut for Afghanistan against Scotland in 2009. He has so far scored 3600 runs in 167 ODI matches. He has also scored 17 fifties and 2 centuries. Nabi has taken 172 wickets in bowling. He is the most capped player for Afghanistan. Nabi is currently ranked number one in the ODI all-rounder rankings.
Afghanistan will play Champions Trophy for the first time The 2025 Champions Trophy will be the first Champions Trophy for the Afghan team. The team finished sixth in the 2023 World Cup, earning it a chance to play in the Champions Trophy.
A total of 8 teams will play in the Champions Trophy out of which the top-7 teams have been selected from the previous World Cup. Nabi has played an important role in giving recognition to the Afghan team in all formats. He led Afghanistan to their first ODI World Cup in 2015. Nabi retired from Test cricket in 2019.
