Maruti Suzuki's upcoming sedan Dzire has received a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. The agency released the crash test results on Friday (November 8). According to GNCAP, the Dezire has scored 31.24 points out of 34 for adults and 39.20 points out of 49 for child safety.
This is the first car from Maruti to get 5 star rating for adult and 4 star rating for child safety from any crash test agency. Earlier, Maruti's Brezza got the highest safety rating of 4 stars. At the same time, the third-generation Dzire received only a 2-star safety rating in crash tests.
The company is gearing up to launch the fourth generation model of its best-selling sedan on November 11. Maruti Suzuki India has recently introduced the new Dzire sedan in the Indian market. After this, the company itself sent it for crash test in Global NCAP.

- Side Pole Impact Test – In this test, the safety of the driver's head, stomach and hips was found to be good. At the same time, the safety of the chest was said to be negligible. Maruti Dzire: Child Occupant Protection Crash Test
- Frontal Impact Test – During this test, a 3-year-old child dummy was made to sit forward, providing full protection to the head and neck, but limited protection to the neck in the forward test. During the crash test, an 18-month-old baby dummy was installed in the rear-facing seat, providing full head protection.
- Side Impact Test – In this test, the child restraint system of both dummies provided complete protection. The Dezire scored 39.20 out of 49 points in the child protection category, good enough to get a 4-star crash test rating in this category.
Maruti Dzire: Safety features The Model 6 included in the crash test was equipped with airbags, an electronic stability program (ESC), 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats, ISOFIX mounts for the rear seats, and front seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters.
The 2024 Maruti Dzire comes with features like 6 airbags, ESC, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mount, rear defogger, seat-belt reminder, 3-point seatbelts for all seats and hill-hold assist from the base variant LXi. While, its top variant also gets features like Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and 360-degree camera.
Crash test procedure
1. For testing, 4 to 5 human-like dummies were placed in the car. A child dummy is placed in the rear seat, which is fixed to the child ISOFIX anchor seat.
2. The vehicle collides with an offset deformable barrier (hard object) at a fixed speed to see how much damage the vehicle and the dummy have. This is done in three ways.
3. The test looks at the extent of damage to the dummy after the impact, whether the airbags and safety features work or not. Based on all these the rating is given.
