Tata Motors has launched the CNG version of its most popular car Nexo on September 24. This compact SUV comes with a turbo petrol engine. So, this is the first car in India to come with a turbo petrol engine and CNG combination. The company claims that this car will run 24 kilometers on one kg of CNG.
The Nexon now has a panoramic sunroof with the CNG powertrain. Tata has introduced the Nexon iCNG in four variants – 8 variants. Its price for the Smart variant is Rs. 8.99 lakh, which for the top variant Fearless Plus PS is Rs. 14.59 lakhs (ex-showroom, all over India).
The CNG version of the car is one lakh rupees more expensive than the regular petrol model, priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 11.20 lakh. The diesel version of the Nexon is priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 15.29 comes in the range of lakhs. Tata Nexon iCNG competes with Maruti Brezza SCNG and Maruti Front SCNG.
Twin-cylinder tank setup with 60-litre capacity No changes have been made to the exterior and interior design of the Nexon iCNG. The biggest change is in the boot. Here you will see twin cylinder technology. This technology features a twin-cylinder tank setup (two cylinders of 30 liters each) with a capacity of 60 liters. This gives the Nexon iCNG a boot space of 321 litres, which is 61 liters less than the petrol and diesel variants.

Safety feature of gas leak detection Like other models, the Tata Motors Nexon iCNG has the safety feature of gas leak detection. In case of CNG leakage in the car, the leak detection technology automatically shifts the vehicle from CNG to petrol mode. The technology also alerts the driver to gas leaks.
Apart from this, a micro switch has been provided to keep the car off while refueling. This switch turns off the ignition as soon as the fuel cap is opened. This prevents the car from starting until the fuel cap is securely closed. It also gives a 'close fuel lid' alert on the instrument cluster.
Performance: Petrol, Diesel, CNG and Electric For performance, the Tata Nexon iCNG gets a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol CNG engine that generates 100PS of power and 170Nm of torque. As for the transmission, it has been tuned to a 6-speed manual gearbox. An automatic transmission option is yet to be offered with it.
While in the ICE powered version of the Nexon, this engine generates 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque. Along with this, a choice of 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission) and 6-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) gearboxes are available.
Apart from this, the Nexon also gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine with 115PS of power and 260Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT gearbox option. The Tata Nexon also comes in an electric version. Along with this, it becomes the first car in the country, which comes in four versions namely petrol, diesel, CNG and electric.
Exterior: A new design LED setup and alloy wheels will be available. In terms of design, the Nexon iCNG is similar to its regular petrol-diesel model. At the front, it gets a new LED DRLs split headlamp setup. Below this, LED headlamps are installed on the sporty bumper.
16 inch diamond cut dual-tone alloy wheels will be available on the side. The rear gets a fully integrated LED tail light, which the company calls the 'X factor tail lamp'. It also has a welcome and goodbye function.
Interior: 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system The cabin of the car features a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. Apart from this, the car gets a touch panel HVAC unit on the dashboard and a new gear selector on the center console. The Tata Nexon CNG will get a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Front ventilated seats are provided in the top variant of the car.
Features: Electric sunroof with voice command Tata Nexon is equipped with many advanced features. It includes Tata's IRA 2.0 mobile connected-technology, voice assisted electric sunroof, JBL 9-speaker sound system, wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, first-in-segment navigation display on the instrument cluster. Apart from this, the top variant of the car also gets cruise control, height adjustable driver seat, leather upholstery and electric panoramic sunroof with voice command.
Safety features: 360-degree camera and TPMS For safety, the Nexon has a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, category one blind-view monitor, ESP, 6 airbags, hill-hold control, roll over mitigation, traction control, ISOFIX child anchor seats and a tire pressure monitoring system. . Features like TPMS) are available.
