In a recent tweet, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has mentioned the violation of norms at the Pune plant of German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz. However, MPCB deleted this tweet after some time. In this tweet, MPCB talked about visiting Mercedes-Benz's Pune plant with a group of people from Board Chairman Siddesh Kadam. Three pictures of Kadam inspecting the plant were also shared in this tweet. MPCB tweet- Company not following pollution control guidelines In the tweet, MPCB wrote, 'Important information: Mercedes-Benz assembly plant found violating norms. During an inspection conducted by MPCB Chairman Siddesh Kadam on August 23, 2024, it was revealed that the Mercedes Benz assembly plant was not complying with MPCB pollution control guidelines. No intimation received from MPCB regarding violation: During Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz officials said they have not received any written notice or formal request from the MPCB chairman about the violation. The company said- We follow global standards in product quality. “Mercedes-Benz is in its 30th year of operations in India,” the company said in a statement. The company's manufacturing facility at Chakan, Pune, which is in its 15th year of operation, is a benchmark in automotive manufacturing in India. The company gives high priority to complying with global standards in product quality, maintaining high environmental and sustainability practices, complying with mandatory regulations and requirements. We are ready to cooperate with the authorities and submit all necessary procedures and documents and take any corrective action if necessary. A local MP questioned MPCB's deletion of tweets Chakan in Khed taluka of Pune district is a hub for automotive giants. Local MP Dr. Amol Kolhe raised questions about the MPCB Chairman's visit to the plant and the deletion of the tweet. The MP said, 'This raises many questions whether the visit was serious or not. The problem of pollution in Indrayani river of Chakan is still not resolved. We want to know the motive behind this visit to MPCB and the issues sought by the Chairman of the Board.
