Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the eighth edition of India Mobile Congress 2024 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi today on October 15. It is expected to provide updates on 6G development in India. The program will be held till October 18.
Organized with the theme 'The Future is Now', the event is likely to showcase 5G use cases in addition to announcements related to cloud and edge computing, IoT, semiconductors, cyber security, green tech, satcom and electronics.
More than 120 countries of the world are participating in this tech event and around 900 startups have also participated. Tech innovations were shown to PM Modi at the IMC 2024 exhibition. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was also with the PM.
PM Modi also inaugurated WTSA 2024
PM Modi also inaugurated the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024, which is being organized by the International Telecommunication Union for the first time in India and the Asia-Pacific region. Over 3,000 industry leaders, policy makers and technical experts from over 190 countries have participated.
Scindia said- DBT transfer shows the power of telecom
Speaking at the event, Jyotiraditya Scindia said- 'Some of the best examples of the power of telecom are the DBT i.e. Direct Benefit Transfer schemes. These schemes deposit Rs. Direct cash transfers of over 1 crore. Scindia said- Mobile connections in India have increased from 904 million to 1.16 billion today. There are 924 million users of broadband connectivity in India. OFC fiber in India was only 11 million route km, today it is 41 million route km. He said- By the middle of next year we will start 4G service across India. We have the fastest 5G rollout in India. 98 percent of the districts and 90 percent of the villages have been covered in a period of just 21 months.
Akash Ambani sought incentives for data centers
AI will change every aspect of our lives. AI is critical to realizing our dream of a developed India by 2047. So India should adopt AI immediately. We request the government to update the 2020 draft of data center policy expeditiously. Indian data should reside in data centers in India. Indian companies willing to set up AI and ML data centers should get all necessary incentives including power consumption.

Mittal said – in the next 18 months, the entire country will be connected to the 5G network
Airtel Chairman Bharti Mittal said- PM Modi asked the Department of Telecommunications and operators to start 5G as soon as possible. I am happy to say that India has launched the fastest 5G network in the country, not only in urban areas but also in all villages and rural areas. Every day, every month more networks are expanding. In the next 12-18 months every part of the country will be connected with a very powerful 5G network.
Birla said- People need to be protected from spam messages Aditya Birla Chairperson Kumar Mangalam Birla said – As the network grows, we have to protect people from phishing attempts, fraudulent calls and spam messages. With the support of government and regulatory bodies, Vodafone Idea is making significant progress in addressing this threat.
