Mahindra Thar Rocks 4×4 Launch: 6 Airbags Standard, ADAS Safety Feature in Off-Road SUV, Price Starts at Rs 18.79 Lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra launched the Thar Rocks 4×4 model yesterday (September 25). It is the 5-gate version of the company's most popular SUV Thar, which was launched in the Indian market on September 2 with a rear wheel drive option.

Mahindra has introduced a 4-wheel-drive variant of the Thar Rocks only with a diesel engine. It is priced at Rs 18.79 lakh (initial ex-showroom, pan-India). 4 wheel drive option is not offered in the petrol version.

Its all-wheel drive variant is priced at Rs. 2 lakh is more. Mahindra Thar Rocks RWD variant is priced at Rs. 12.99 lakh and Rs. 20.49 lakh is between. Its booking will start from 3rd October and delivery will start from 12th October.

The Thar Rocks features a new 6-slat grille, all LED lighting setup, 10.25-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats and auto AC. For safety, the new SUV is equipped with safety features like 6 airbags, TPMS and ADAS as standard. It is also being seen as an alternative to the Maruti Jimny.

Exterior: Traditional boxy profile in Thar Rocks The design of the Thar Rocks is similar to the 3-door Thar with a traditional boxy profile, but with some changes. The SUV gets LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs and a new body color 6-slat grille. There are also some silver elements on the front bumper. The fog lights and turn indicators remain in place on the 3-door hatch, but the design has been tweaked.

Talking about the side profile, two additional doors will be seen here and the rear door handle is fitted on the C-pillar. It also gets 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and footrests to accommodate the car. The Thar Rocks also features a matte roof, with a panoramic sunroof. The company has also offered a single-pane sunroof in its lower variants.

Its taillights are given a C-shape and the rear is also given a tailgate mounted spare wheel. What is special is that it now also has a wiper on the rear glass, which is not seen in the 3-door Thar. The rear window and rear door open separately as before.

Interior: Panoramic sunroof and 10.25-inch digital driver display

The cabins at Thar Rocks are based on a black and white theme. The seats get white leather upholstery and the dashboard gets black leatherette wrapping with contrast copper stitching. It also has a center armrest for the front passenger. There are child ISOFIX anchor seats in the rear, foldable center armrest, three-point seatbelts and adjustable headrests for all passengers.

The 5-door Thar gets a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.25-inch infotainment system. Apart from this, features like panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging and keyless entry with push button start-stop are also provided.​​​​

Safety Feature: Advanced Driver Assessment System For safety, safety features like 6 airbags (standard), 360 degree camera setup, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) are offered. The Thar Rocks also comes with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), with functions like lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control available.
