You must have heard about scams in the name of e-commerce websites, but a fraud on one such e-commerce website…would be a little strange to hear. Yes, it is being reported that a gang of fraudsters has done the biggest refund scam on Flipkart's fashion brand Website Myntra.
The company's audit was a mess There are reports that the company has been swindled to the tune of 50 crores in a refund scam perpetrated by fraudsters. A gang of fraudsters took advantage of the company's return policy to carry out the scam. The entire scam has been exposed in the audit of the company.
What is this refund scam? Scammers used to place large orders, which cost much more. Items like branded shoes, clothes and accessories were ordered in bulk in Thagai. As soon as the order is received, the fraudsters file a fake complaint. These complaints were about shortage of goods ordered, delivery of wrong items or non-delivery. Myntra pays refunds to its customers in lieu of complaints. These options are available in case of under-delivery of items, color mismatch or receiving wrong items.
How was the fraud done? According to a TOI report, such a gang is running the scam in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Almost all fraudulent orders are placed from Jaipur. Fraudsters gave delivery addresses in Bengaluru and other metros. Some of these orders were delivered to tea shops, tailor shops or stationery stores.
1.1 crore lime to the company from Bengaluru itself The entire scam was coordinated and executed through fake orders. According to the report, the company has suffered a loss of Rs 50 crore due to such scams in different areas across the country. The company has identified 5529 fake orders from Bengaluru alone and filed a police complaint of Rs 1.1 crore fraud.
What did the police say in this matter? Explaining the scam, the police said, Suppose a person orders 10 branded shoes. If after receiving the parcel he claims that only five shoes were delivered to him, he can claim a refund for the other five shoes. This fraud has been committed by taking advantage of this refund policy of the company. According to a TOI report, the scam was exposed between March and June this year and the total loss could be even higher.
