Sharda Sinha dies of rare cancer: Know from doctor what multiple myeloma and septicemia caused death

“Supwa Lele O Babua…, Chatthi Maiya Suniya…, Pahele Pahele Chatthi Maiya…”

Today these songs are echoing in every home and ghat of North India. Folk singer Sharda Sinha, who made Chhath popular all over the world by mixing these folk songs with the magic of her voice, has passed away.

Bihar's nightingale Sharda Sinha has passed away at the age of 72 at AIIMS, New Delhi. AIIMS said in its bulletin that Sharda Sinha suffered refractory shock due to septicemia and died due to it.

Sharda Sinha was suffering from multiple myeloma for the past 6 years. This is a rare type of cancer that affects plasma cells (white blood cells). This weakens the immune system and increases the risk of infection. Because of this, Sharda Sinha also suffered from septicemia, a serious illness that claimed her life.

That's why today Health waterIn we will talk about multiple myeloma. You will also learn that-

  • What is multiple myeloma and why does it happen?
  • Why does this increase the risk of septicemia?
  • What are the treatment and prevention measures for this disease?

Multiple What is myeloma? This is a rare blood cancer that causes healthy plasma cells to change into abnormal cells. These abnormal cells start multiplying rapidly and start producing what are called abnormal antibodies.

How many people does multiple myeloma affect? This is a very rare cancer. Only 7 out of every 1 million people worldwide are affected by this cancer. According to a study published in the National Library of Medicine, in the year 2018, only 1 lakh 60 thousand people were affected by it worldwide.

How does multiple myeloma affect the body? It has the greatest effect on the immune system. Abnormal cells begin to multiply rapidly and spread throughout the body. All organs are affected by this. A decrease in red blood cells leads to anemia and weakening of the bones can increase the risk of bone fractures. Kidney failure occurs.

What problems can this cause in the body, see in the graphic-

What are its symptoms? Early stage multiple myeloma has no symptoms. However, it can be detected by a blood test even during this period. Its symptoms develop gradually over time. The problem with this is that its symptoms are similar to other medical conditions. So this disease is recognized late.

Dr. Sarita Rani says that if symptoms of multiple medical conditions appear simultaneously, it is very important to get them checked out after consulting a doctor. See the graphic below to see what the symptoms usually look like:

What is the treatment for multiple myeloma? This disease cannot be completely cured. Therefore, it is treated based on the symptoms, so that the symptoms can be reduced and the patient can have a long life and relief. As the immune system is further affected due to this, immunotherapy can be given. Antibiotics may be given to prevent bacterial infections.

What is septicemia? AIIMS Delhi bulletin said that Sharda Sinha died due to septicemia. In such a situation, the question may arise that he had a rare cancer. So how did septicemia cause death? First understand what septicemia is, says Dr. Sarita.

Dr. Sarita says that in multiple myeloma our immune system is affected the most. This increases the risk of infection. In such a condition, any germ can easily attack the body. If a bacteria, fungus or virus enters the bloodstream, it becomes toxic.

Understand it this way, all the organs in our body are supplied with oxygen and nutrition by blood for their function. When septicemia occurs, these germs travel directly through the blood to all organs, attacking and damaging them. This causes their function to deteriorate and the person dies.
