Millions die due to overwork: India ranks second among countries with longest working hours, know the damage and prevention measures

Recently, news of the untimely death of a 26-year-old chartered accountant working in Pune, due to excessive workload, has left people reeling. This incident has not only disturbed everyone but has also created an important debate in the corporate world on the issue of toxic workplace culture and overwork.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Labor Organization (ILO), long working hours caused 745,000 deaths from stroke and coronary heart disease in 2016, a 29% increase from 2000. Studies also show that working 55 or more hours per week increases the risk of stroke by 35% and the risk of death from coronary heart disease by 17% compared to working 35-40 hours.
