Talking about fire incidents on Diwali, according to the Fire Department, 208 fires broke out in Delhi on Diwali alone in the year 2023. Answer: Firecrackers are the biggest cause of fire during this time. There are some firecrackers whose sparks fly in the air and cause havoc in one's house. Even if you light the firecrackers yourself, a bit of carelessness can cause a fire or we can get burned. Apart from this, if we are not careful while lighting lamps or candles in the house, it can also cause fire.
One of the major causes of fires is that on the day of Diwali, many lights are lit everywhere in the house. Even two-three storied houses are covered with lights from top to bottom. Due to excessive consumption of electricity on the day of Diwali, the load on the house wiring also increases. In such a situation, if the wiring system is not strong, there is a risk of short circuit. It is very important to take special care of security to avoid it.
Question- What precautions should be taken to avoid fire on Diwali?
Answer: Fire risk is high on Diwali. In such a situation we need to be more careful about this. Do not wear clothes made of silk, nylon, polyester on this day as they catch fire easily. Instead wear cotton clothes. Avoid using matches and lighters to light firecrackers as they contain open flames, which can be dangerous. Answer- We need to be very careful while burning them. Let's know about this in pointers.
- Light a lamp or candle in a place where there are no flammable materials.
- Do not light the lamp and place it near electrical wires, inverters, vehicles or synthetic fabric curtains.
- Place the lamp or candle on a flat surface, where they are balanced.
- If there are small children in the house, keep the lamp at a height where their hands cannot reach.
- Do not light lamps or candles outside if there is strong wind.
- Do not light the lamp on any electronic equipment.
- Hand sanitizer should not be used while lighting lamps or candles. The alcohol present in the sanitizer catches fire.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap before lighting a lamp or candle.
- If a person is burned, give immediate first aid.
Question- It is necessary to keep a first aid kit in the house to avoid fire. What items should be in that kit?
Answer- Most of the people do not pay attention to this, but it is very important to have a first aid kit in every home to avoid fire on Diwali. You can include the following items in a first aid kit.
- Antiseptic cream
- Apply Bernol or any medically approved cream
- Pain killer pills
- Wound Cleansing Lotion
- Bandi, cotton etc.
- Antiseptic ointment, Savlon
- Small scissors and gloves.
Question: What to do immediately if burned by firecrackers?
Answer- If anyone gets burned by firecrackers, give this first aid immediately-
Cool the burned area
Pour water on the burned area for at least 20 minutes. The faster and longer you cool the burned area, the less the burn will be. Do not pour cold water on the wound as it can worsen the burn injury.
Cover the burned area Remove all clothing and jewelry from the burned area of the body. Cover the area with a clean, dry sheet or bandage.
Seek medical help
If the burn injury is severe, call emergency services and consult a doctor and take necessary medication.
