Has it ever happened to you that no matter how much water you splash in your eyes, no matter how much tea and coffee you drink, it becomes difficult to keep your eyes open. The body is breaking down due to pain and fatigue. Wherever you are in office, school or college, somehow you finish your work and go to sleep and even after falling there you don't sleep for hours. In such a situation, someone is so angry that what is happening? You are tired and sleepy in your eyes, but you cannot sleep. If you can't sleep even after being so tired, it means that your body's circadian rhythm is out of whack. Circadian rhythm refers to our body's natural clock, which helps our body decide when to sleep and wake up. This watch also reminds you what work is due at what time. All this can be due to excessive daytime sleepiness, any stress disorder, sleep disorder or other factors. Whatever the reason, if this condition persists for a long time, it is a health hazard. So, today in 'Health Water' we will understand why a person cannot sleep despite being tired. You will also learn that waking and sleeping are as important as day and night. Each 24-hour cycle has a continuous cycle of day and night. Similarly the sleep and wake cycle of every human being and animal also continues. Only when a person gets enough sleep at night can he work with full diligence and energy during the day. Dr. Matthew Walker explains it beautifully in his book – Circadian rhythm is the body's self-alarm clock Circadian rhythm is like a human's internal timekeeper. Our natural clock keeps a record of everything we do each day in a 24-hour period. This watch keeps reminding us for important tasks every day like a self alarm. The body's master clock is called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). This happens in the brain, which controls the production of melatonin. Melatonin is the hormone responsible for sleep. When melatonin is released, we fall asleep. When there is sunlight during the day, melatonin levels are low. As darkness increases after morning, the production of melatonin in the body starts to increase. This continues continuously and after about 4 am its production begins to decrease. It is through this hormone that we get sleep. When the level of melatonin in our body starts to increase, our body prefers to sleep after about 2 hours. If a person is still awake late at night after this, it means that his body clock is not working properly. Waking up late at night disrupts the circadian rhythm If a person has a different sleep and wake schedule than normal, but is healthy and feeling well, then there is no problem. If a person cannot sleep even after being very tired then it is a problem. This means that its circadian rhythm is disturbed. This could be a sign of delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS). This happens when a person sleeps 2 or more hours after the normal bedtime (between 10 and 12 midnight). Due to which there is a problem in getting up on time in the morning. DSPS usually affects young people more. There is a difference between tiredness, sleepiness and lack of energy. According to Dr. Praveen Gupta fatigue, lack of sleep and lack of energy are three different conditions. Many reasons for not being able to sleep despite being tired If a person is very tired and cannot fall asleep even after sunset, it may be a sign of delayed sleep phase syndrome. If this does not happen then there may be some other reason or many other factors behind it. See graphic. Now let's understand the points given in the graphic in detail.
