What do you usually do when you have a cold and fever? The answer would be that we take medicines after consulting a doctor. In case of diabetes and hypertension, medicines are taken regularly. After this they say without concern, 'We have taken the medicine, now there is no need to worry.'
In the past few months, several drugs have failed quality tests during inspections by drug regulatory body CDSCO (Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation). This means that the medicine is not effective for the disease it was intended to treat. The side effects of that drug can also be serious. Overall, it is not safe to consume drugs that fail the quality test. So, even after taking the medicine we cannot remain calm.
India's largest drug regulatory body CDSCO has released a list of 48 drugs. These drugs failed the random sample quality test conducted in the month of August. A total of 53 drugs failed in this testing, while 5 of these drugs are those that the companies have refused to accept as their own. These were fake medicines, which were being sold in the market in the name of some pharma companies.
It is a matter of concern that the drugs which failed the tests are being manufactured by well-known pharma companies of the country such as Hetero Drugs, Alchem Laboratories, Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL), Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited.
So, today In 'health water' We will talk about the drugs that failed CDSCO's test. You will also know that-
- Why can't we trust pharma companies and doctors?
- What habits are making us sick?
- How can we take control of our health into our own hands?
People of India consider doctors as another form of God In July 2023, the then Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya said at the third convocation of AIIMS Rishikesh, that the people of India see doctors as messengers of God. Therefore, it is the responsibility of doctors to make healthcare affordable and accessible to serve humanity. He also said that health in India is not a business, but a service. However, in the last few months, both these things said by Mansukh Mandaviya have been tarnished.
In April 2024, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) released a survey report, which revealed that 45% of doctors in India were writing false or misleading prescriptions. It was also revealed that many drugs like pantoprazole, rabeprazole-domperidone and enzyme drugs were being unnecessarily prescribed by doctors in the prescription papers.
Now, if the drugs of reputed pharma companies fail the quality test, it means that the health of common people is being played on a big scale.
Which diseases drugs failed in sample testing? Shellac, a popular tablet meant to supply calcium and vitamin D to children, also failed to meet the criteria in this quality test. It is manufactured by the famous pharmaceutical company Torrent Pharmaceuticals. This drug is used in young children during teething, in adults with bone-related problems, and to prevent osteoporosis in the elderly.
The list of drugs and pharma companies that have failed quality tests is so long that it is difficult to name each one. For now, see the graphic on which drugs have failed tests for which diseases.
