When the lawyer said Ya…Ya…Ya…CJI got angry: Said- Say yes, this is a court not a coffee shop; Hearing the reprimand, the lawyer started speaking Marathi

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Monday took umbrage after a lawyer said 'ya..ya..' in English during a hearing. He scolded the lawyer and said – This is not a coffee shop. What is this 'ya..ya..' I am very allergic to this. This cannot be allowed. You say YES..

After hearing the reprimand, the lawyer said that he is a resident of Pune. He started arguing in Marathi. CJI also tried to explain it in Marathi.

However, the petition was filed seeking an in-house inquiry against former CJI Ranjan Gogoi. CJI Chandrachud has ordered the lawyer to remove the former CJI's name from the case.

Earlier the lawyer was reprimanded for speaking English

  • Advocate: Former Justice Ranjan Gogoi's decision was not a valid termination.
  • CJI Chandrachud: But is this an application of Article 32? How can you file a PIL making a judge a party?
  • Advocate: 'ya..ya..'Then CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked me to file a curative.
  • CJI Chandrachud: This is not a coffee shop! What is this 'ya..ya..' I am very allergic to it. This cannot be allowed.

The CJI then explained to the lawyer in Marathi

  • CJI Chandrachud: (in Marathi) Judge ala party karat nahi. That's the reason. (You cannot impeach a judge. There is a procedure for this in law.) When you challenge a High Court decision, you are not impeaching the judge here.
  • Advocate: Main kay karat sahib (what should I do).
  • CJI Chandrachud: Tumhale sujat nahi (You are not understanding me at all)
  • CJI Chandrachud: Will you remove Justice Gogoi's name from the appeal?
  • a lawyer: Ho Ho (Yes..Yes..) I will do it.
  • CJI Chandrachud: Ok you remove it first then we will see.

A petition was filed in 2018 against former CJI Ranjan A case was filed against the former CJI in May 2018. It said that former CJI Gogoi had wrongly dismissed a petition challenging his removal from office on the ground of illegal statement. There were major errors of law in his decision.

During the hearing, CJI Chandrachud said that right or wrong, the final decision of the Supreme Court has come. The review petition is dismissed. Now you have to file curative. But you don't want to do that.

The CJI also made it clear that when a High Court decision is challenged in the Supreme Court, the High Court Judge who passed the decision in the case is not made a party.

CJI's rebuke-sit here for a day, run away for life

CJI DY Chandrachud told the lawyer on repeatedly asking for a date for the petition regarding the disqualification of Shiv Sena (Shinde group) MLAs – sit here for a day. You will run for your life. The Chief Justice made the remarks while fixing dates for two separate petitions filed by NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Group).

Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar's Shinde faction was declared the real Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Group) has filed a petition against him. At the same time, the NCP (Sharad group) has filed a petition against the decision to declare the Ajit group as the de facto NCP. Read full news

The CJI said – speak slowly, otherwise I will throw you out

Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud got angry with a lawyer. The lawyer spoke loudly to the CJI about the list of petitions. At that Chandrachud reprimanded the lawyer and said – You must speak in a low voice, otherwise I will throw you out of the court.

CJI told the lawyer- One second, lower your voice first. You are standing in the Supreme Court and expressing your views. If you think you can intimidate the court by speaking loudly, you are wrong. No one has ever spoken to me like that in my 23 year career. I will not let this happen even in the remaining one year of my career. Read full news…
