Voting begins on 40 seats in Jammu and Kashmir: 415 candidates in last phase; Brother of terrorist Afzal Guru and engineer Rashid Maidan

Voting for the last and third phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections has started from 7 am on Tuesday. Voting will be held on 40 assembly seats in 7 districts till 6 pm. In which 39.18 lakh voters will be included.

Out of 40 seats in the third phase, 24 are from Jammu division and 16 from Kashmir valley. According to the Election Commission, 415 candidates are in the fray in the last phase. In which there are 387 male and 28 female candidates.

In the third phase, 169 candidates are millionaires and 67 candidates have criminal cases registered against them. Devendra Singh Rana, the BJP candidate from Nagrota in Jammu, has the highest wealth of Rs 126 crore.

Ejaz Ahmed Guru, elder brother of Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru is also in the election fray in this phase. Ejaz Guru is an independent candidate from Sopore seat.

Engineer Rashid's brother Khurshid Ahmed Shaikh is contesting from North Kashmir's Langat seat. Former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig is contesting as an independent candidate from Baramulla.

Voting was held on September 18 in 24 assembly seats of the first phase. Meanwhile, 61.38% voting took place. While on September 25, 57.31% voting was done in 26 assembly seats of 6 districts.

Ghulam Nabi Azad said that elections are being held after 10 years, so those who were saying that elections have not been held, should now come to the ground and vote. Everyone should exercise a vote.

Highest turnout in 11 Jammu seats, 33 PDP candidates in fray

In the third phase, voting will be held on maximum 11 seats of Jammu district. 7 seats of Baramulla, 6 each of Kupwara and Kathua, 4 of Udhampur and 3 each of Bandipora and Samba will be polled. Maximum 25 candidates are in fray for Baramulla seat. There is a fight between 3 candidates in Akhnoor, Jammu.
