Two people, including a woman, were killed in an attack by terrorists in Manipur's Imphal West district on Sunday. Nine people, including the woman's 8-year-old daughter and a police officer, were injured. According to the police, the militants fired from the hilltop areas towards the lower areas of Kotruk and Kadangband valleys and also attacked with drones. The sudden attack forced many people including women, children and the elderly to flee to safety. According to media reports, 5 of the 9 injured were shot, while the rest were bombed. Locals have claimed that drone bombs were used in the attack. BJP leader's house set on fire The house of BJP spokesperson T Michael L Hockip was set on fire in Penial. While sharing the video on X, Haokip alleged that this is the work of cookie people. Haokip said it was the third time his house had been attacked in a year. Last week too, more than 30 gunmen fired several rounds. Kuki-Jo organizations demand Kukiland in Manipur People of the Kuki-Jo community took out rallies in Manipur's Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnopal on August 31. These organizations demand that a separate Kukiland be created in Manipur, which should be a union territory. These organizations say that the only way to get the state out of caste strife is to create a union territory with a legislature on the lines of Puducherry. Opposition to CM Biren's interview and viral audio Protests were held in Manipur against the interview given by CM Biren Singh to news agency PTI. In an interview to PTI, the Chief Minister rejected the demand of Kuki groups for a separate administration (Kukiland). CM Biren said that he will not allow the identity of the state to be weakened. Biren hails from the Maitei community. A special development package has been assured for the area where the Kukis live. Apart from this, another viral audio of CM Biren has created an uproar. This audio is attributed to CM Biren Singh. The audio contains objectionable comments on the ongoing violence in Manipur since May 2023. However, the Manipur government says that the Chief Minister's voice has been tampered with in the audio clip. This is being done to derail the peace initiative in the violence-hit state. Police are investigating the matter More than 200 people have died in the ongoing violence since May 2023 Violence has been going on in Manipur since May 3, 2023 between the Kuki and Meitei communities over reservation. According to government figures, 226 people have died so far due to violence. While more than 1100 people have been injured. More than 65 thousand people have left their homes.
