The officer who jailed Shah Rukh's son enters politics: Controversial IRS officer Sameer Wankhede to join Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, contest from Dharavi assembly seat

Samir Wankhede, the famous Maharashtra IRS officer and former NCB officer who sent Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan to jail, will enter politics. According to sources, Wankhede may contest from Dharavi assembly seat in Mumbai in the Maharashtra assembly elections. According to sources, Sameer may join Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde's faction.

Currently, Congress MP and Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaekwad is MLA from Dharavi assembly seat. Varsha Gaikwad wants to make her sister Congress candidate for this seat. Now there is talk that Sameer Wankhede will contest from this seat. Before entering politics, Sameer Wankhede has to resign from the post of IRS and the resignation has to be accepted by the Home Department of the Central Government. After that, the way to enter politics will be clear.

Last year, the CBI had registered a case against Wankhede for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25 crore to implicate Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan in a drugs-on-crime case. The deal is worth Rs. 18 crore, the agency said, adding that Wankhede's assets were higher than his known sources of income.

Mahayuti government in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has a Mahayuti coalition government led by Eknath Shinde, which includes the BJP. After the 2019 assembly elections, there was a huge upheaval in the politics of Maharashtra. Then BJP and Shiv Sena contested the election together. BJP contested on 165 seats and won 105 seats. Shiv Sena contested on 126 seats and won 56. Maharashtra politics now has two Shiv Sena and two NCP. Shinde group's Shiv Sena is with the BJP, while Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena is with the Congress. Similarly, Ajit Pawar's NCP is in alliance with BJP, while Sharad Pawar's NCP is in alliance with Congress.

The Election Commission announced the Maharashtra assembly elections on Tuesday. Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said that voting for all the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase. Voting will be held on November 20. The counting of votes will take place on November 23. Maharashtra has a total of 9.63 crore voters.

Who is Sameer Wankhede?

44-year-old Sameer Wankhede is a 2008 batch IRS Indian Revenue Service officer. Till 2021 he worked as Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai. Before joining the NCB, Wankhed worked with the National Investigation Agency and the Air Intelligence Unit.
