The TRF has become more active after the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. The TRF, not the army, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Objective of TRF: After 2020, the TRF was involved in most incidents of target killing. Targets Kashmiri Pandits, migrant workers, government officials, leaders and security forces. After the abrogation of 370, it aims to sabotage government schemes and rehabilitation schemes of Kashmiri Pandits and spread instability. It has also targeted local Muslims working in the government or police, whom it considers close to India.
