A case of assault on an army officer and sexual harassment of his fiancee has come to light in the Bharatpur Police Station of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The victim went to the police station to file a road rage complaint against the army officer.
The policemen first misbehaved with him at the police station, then locked up the army officer. When the victim protested, he was beaten and his hands and feet were tied.
According to the victim, a male officer removed her undergarments. Then kicked him in the breast. When the inspector-in-charge reached the police station, he pulled down the victim's pants, exposed her private parts and uttered obscenities.
The incident is on September 15. Police arrested the victim on charges of misdemeanor. He made the revelation after being treated at Bhubaneswar AIIMS after getting bail from the High Court on September 19.
A complaint was registered at Chandka police station on Thursday on the direction of DG YB Khurania following the victim's allegations. He ordered a crime branch probe, after which 5 police officers, including the inspector in-charge of Bharatpur, were suspended.
5 serious charges against the policemen of the victim
- On September 15 at 1 am I was returning home with an army officer after closing the restaurant. On the way some youths tried to block their way and started harassing them. They reached the Bharatpur police station to complain to the police and seek help.
- When he tried to lodge a complaint at the Bharatpur police station, a woman policeman present in civil dress started abusing him. After a while some more policemen reached the police station in a patrol vehicle. They locked up the army officer.
- When I said, they cannot keep an army officer in custody, it is illegal, two women policemen grabbed my hair and started beating me severely. When a lady policeman tried to grab my neck, I slapped her hand.
- After this they tied my hands with my jacket. My legs were tied with a lady constable's dupatta. After a while a postal official came. He removed my undergarments and started kicking me on the chest.
- The inspector in charge came at around 6 in the morning. He pulled down my pants. He then pulled down his pants, exposed his private parts and uttered obscenities. Meanwhile I started shouting loudly for help.
Army officer said – 4 policemen dragged me, tore my pants An army officer said that, while filing a complaint at the police station, four police officers suddenly caught me. The four men dragged me to a cell. There he removed my pant. Took all my things. I was illegally locked inside the cell at 3 am. Meanwhile, two female police officers assaulted my fiance in the lobby.
At 6 am when my fiancee asked the police officers for an arrest warrant, she was dragged into a room and four male and three female police officers, including the in-charge SI, stripped her of her clothes and assaulted her. I kept hearing screams for 30 minutes. After this my fiancé was arrested for misconduct.

Police said- Army officer and his fiancee were drunk
Bharatpur police said that the army officer and his fiancee were drunk. They reached the Bharatpur police station on the night of September 15 and ransacked it. Computers and furniture were broken. Officers on duty were also attacked. Due to which he was arrested.
The Women's Commission took note of it
The National Commission for Women has taken notice of this matter. The commission has written to the DGP of Odisha seeking an action report within 3 days. It was also said that immediate action should be taken in this matter. There should be no delay in this.
Confirmation of physical abuse of the victim in medical examination
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. A medical examination confirmed that she had been physically assaulted. Director General of Police YB Khurania has handed over the investigation of the case to the Crime Branch.
Odisha Police said that the accused in this case Bharatpur Police Station Inspector-in-charge (ICC) Dinkrishna Mishra, Sub Inspector Baisalini Panda, Assistant Sub Inspector Salilamoyi Sahu and Sagarika Rath and Constable Balram Handa have been suspended.
