Supreme Court's YouTube channel hacked: Cryptocurrency ad replaces live stream of case hearing

The official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India was hacked on Friday. A video advertising cryptocurrency XRP was being shown on the channel. The XRP cryptocurrency is developed by Ripple Labs, a US-based company. The Supreme Court uses a YouTube channel to live stream hearings of cases listed before constitution benches and issues of public interest.

Recently, the hearing of the rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was streamed live on the Supreme Court's YouTube channel.

Videos of the hearing, uploaded to the Supreme Court's YouTube channel, were privatized by hackers and posted 'Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds to the SEC's $2 Billion Fine! A video titled 'XRP Price Prediction' is currently live on the hacked channel. “We don't really know what happened,” said a senior Supreme Court official. But it seems that the Website has been tampered with. He said the issue came to light on the Supreme Court's official YouTube channel on Friday morning and the IT team of the Supreme Court sought help from the NIC (National Informatics Centre) to fix it.
