Supermoon seen across the country including Delhi, Srinagar: Moon appears 14% bigger in size and 30% brighter

Supermoon was seen in Delhi. This is the biggest and brightest moon of the year.

A supermoon was observed across the world on Thursday. During this period the Moon appeared 14% larger than normal. The moon also appeared 30% brighter. A supermoon occurs when the distance between the Earth and the Moon becomes the smallest.

This is why the moon appears big and bright. This supermoon looked as if it was approaching the Earth. Supermoon was seen in many parts of the country including Delhi, Guwahati, Kashmir.

This third supermoon of the year will be seen again on November 15 On Thursday, the Moon was approximately 351,519 km from Earth. While normally it is farthest 4,05,000 km and nearest 3,63,104 km. A supermoon was also observed last month on September 18, when the moon was 357,485 km from Earth.

At the same time, the first supermoon of the year appeared on August 19. At that time the moon was 361,969 km away from the earth. The fourth supermoon of the year will occur on November 15, when the moon will be 361,866 km from Earth.

Supermoon was seen very bright in Delhi.

This picture is of Delhi's India Gate. A huge crowd gathered here to see the supermoon.

This is how the supermoon appeared behind Hazratbal Dargah in Srinagar.

The moon appeared pale red in Assam's Guwahati. Later it hid in the clouds.

A blue moon was observed in August last year Supermoon was also seen on August 1 and August 30 last year. The supermoon of August 30 was called the Super Blue Moon. In fact, one cycle of the moon is 29.5 days. When a full moon occurs twice in a calendar month, it is called a 'blue moon'.

There was a full moon on August 1, 2023, followed by another full moon on August 30, so it is called a blue moon. Usually this happens once in every 2 to 3 years. Full moon, supermoon and blue moon are falling on August 30, hence it is being called 'Super Blue Moon'.

The trend started in the year 1940 that if two full moons occur in the same month, the second full moon will be called a blue moon. Since this day is a supermoon, the moon will appear big and bright, but not blue.

This is a supermoon The Moon moves in an elliptical orbit around the Earth. So the distance between the Earth and the Moon changes every day. When the moon is farthest from the earth is called apogee. When the Moon is closest to the Earth, it is called perigee.

When the Moon is at perigee i.e. closest to the Earth and falls into a full moon, it is called a supermoon. Astrologer Richard Knoll first coined the term 'supermoon' in 1979. During a supermoon, the Moon appears 14% larger and 30% brighter than Earth.

It is worth noting here that the size or brightness of the moon does not change, but on the days when it is near the earth, it is felt to be huge and bright.

The distance between Earth and Moon at apogee is about 4.05 lakh kilometers. The distance between the Earth and the Moon at perigee is about 3.63 lakh kilometers. (Reference: NASA)

What is the relationship between a full moon and a supermoon? The Moon completes one orbit around the Earth every 27 days. Full moon also occurs once in 29.5 days. A supermoon does not occur on every full moon, but every supermoon occurs on a full moon. The Moon orbits the Earth in an oval, so the distance between the Earth and the Moon changes every day.

Super Buck Moon occurs in July Supermoon seen in July is also called Buck Moon. Buck in Hindi means adult male deer. This is said in reference to the time of year when deer grow new antlers. At the same time, in some places the July supermoon is also called the Thunder Moon, because thunder and lightning are common in this month.
