The Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Mumbai on Thursday heard the matter in a defamation case filed by former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya's wife Dr Medha Somaiya. Rajya Sabha MP of Shiv Sena (UBT) has been convicted and sentenced. The court has sentenced Raut to 15 days in jail. A fine of 25 thousand rupees has also been imposed, which will be recovered from Raut as compensation.
Sanjay Raut found guilty in defamation case
Raut has been charged with defamation under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code. Medha, a professor of organic chemistry at Mumbai's Ruia College, filed a case against Raut under sections 499 (making or publishing any accusation) and 500 (defamation). Raut accused him and his NGO Yuva Prestige of the Rs 100 crore toilet scam.

Dr Medha Somaiya said this in the application Somaiya, in a complaint filed by advocate Vivekananda Gupta, has said that on and after April 15, 2022, Raut made inappropriate statements against her in the media. These statements were published and disseminated to the general public on a large scale through electronic and print media. The complaint states that these inappropriate statements also went viral on social media platforms on the same day and were read and heard by a large number of people.
Allegations of Rs 100 crore toilet scam were made
Sanjay Raut made serious allegations against Kirit Somaiya and his wife. Raut said that Kirit Somaiya, with the help of his wife, had perpetrated a Rs 100 crore toilet scam. Kirit Somaiya also gave a statement regarding this. He said that Sanjay Raut will answer only if he gives any evidence.
