The division of seats between the National Conference (NC) and the Congress regarding the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections was decided on Monday. Out of the 90 seats in the union territory, the National Conference will contest 51 seats and the Congress will contest 32 seats. There will be a friendly fight on 5 seats. 2 seats have been won by CPI(M) and Panthers Party. Congress general secretaries KC Venugopal and Salman Khurshid and state Congress president Hamid Karra visited National Conference supremo Farooq Abdullah's residence in Srinagar on Monday. After an hour-long meeting between the leaders, a consensus was reached on the issue of distribution of seats. According to sources, there was tension between the two parties over Nagrota, Vijaypur and Habba Kadal seats. Apart from this there are two other seats. After two consecutive meetings in Delhi and Srinagar, an agreement has been reached between the two parties. Rahul said the coalition only when Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi arrived in Srinagar on the evening of August 21 to honor the workers. Meanwhile, he held a meeting with the National Conference regarding the alliance and seat sharing. On August 22, Rahul told the workers that the alliance in the Jammu and Kashmir elections will only happen when all Congress workers are respected. Voting will be held in three phases from September 18 in Jammu and Kashmir The Election Commission has announced the dates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on August 16. Voting will be held in three phases in the state. There are total 90 assembly seats here. The majority figure is 46. 90 assembly seats in Jammu-Kashmir The Jammu-Kashmir Delimitation Commission submitted its report on 5 May 2022. According to the report, there will be 90 assembly seats and 5 parliamentary seats i.e. Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir. From the point of view of division, Jammu division has been increased by 6 seats to 43 assembly seats and Kashmir Valley has been increased by 1 seat to 47 seats. Ramgarh in Samba district of Jammu division, Jasrota in Kathua, Thannamandi in Rajouri, Peder-Nagaseni in Kishtwar, Doda West in Doda and Ramnagar in Udhampur were added. At the same time, Trehgam new seat was included in Kupwara district in Kashmir Valley. Apart from this, 5 Lok Sabha seats were created in Jammu and Kashmir, which are Baramulla, Srinagar, Anantnag-Rajouri, Udhampur and Jammu. The last assembly election was held in 2014. The last assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir was held in 2014. Then BJP and PDP formed a coalition government. In 2018, the government fell after the coalition broke down. After this, the state had Governor's rule (as per the then Jammu and Kashmir Constitution) for 6 months. After this President's rule was implemented. The 2019 Lok Sabha elections were held during the President's rule, with the BJP returning to the Center with an overwhelming majority. Following this, on August 5, 2019, the BJP government abrogated Article 370 and divided the state into two Union Territories (Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh). In this way, assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years.
