- The first session after the re-formation of the state will be held in Jammu city
An agreement has been reached at the highest level in the central government to grant full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. A proposal to this effect will be brought in the winter session of Parliament starting in the last week of November. In fact, the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. After this, the government has started an initiative in this direction.
The government assured the Parliament of restoration of statehood. The cabinet, the first government formed after the recent elections in the union territory, passed a proposal to restore statehood and sent it to the lieutenant governor (LG). The LG has approved the proposal and forwarded it to the Home Ministry. This is a direct indication that there will be no delay in restoring statehood.
Effect: The state government will maintain law and order, restore confidence among the people
- With the restoration of the state, police, law and order will be under the authority of an elected government. The state government will have direct control over the police.
- The elected state government will have the power to legislate in matters relating to land, revenue and police.
- The interference of the Lieutenant Governor in running the government will be reduced.
- Dependence on the Center for financial help will end. Like other states, Jammu and Kashmir will also get financial assistance from the Finance Commission.
- For the first time in the country, a state was made a union territory. In such a situation, getting back the status of the state will strengthen the confidence of the people.
Chief Minister Omar demanded from PM and Home Minister… In a meeting with the PM and the Home Minister, Omar requested for restoration of statehood. He has been assured of restoration to the state this year. Ladakh will remain a Union Territory. After the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in 2019, 2 Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, were created.
Ban on durbar move lifted, Jammu-Srinagar capital The Center has lifted the ban on 'Darbar Move'. Now as before, the capital will be Jammu in winter and Srinagar in summer. LG closed Darbar Move 3 years ago citing financial burden. Actually the cost was to be borne by the centre, but now the financial burden will fall on the state.
