Monsoon tracker in the country: Mumbai red alert today, schools-colleges closed, woman dead, 14 flights diverted; Heavy rain alert in 11 states

Heavy rains in Mumbai flooded the roads.

Red alert for heavy rains in entire Maharashtra including Mumbai today. A holiday has been declared in all schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. People have been appealed to stay in their homes.

Many parts of Mumbai received more than 3.9 inches of rain in about five hours on Wednesday evening. Rivers are flowing on the roads. Vehicles were stuck in several kilometers long jam till late night due to waterlogging. 14 flights were diverted at Mumbai airport. Local trains also ran late. A woman died after drowning in a canal in Andheri.

On the other hand, in Surat on Wednesday, 2 inches of rain fell in 2 hours, causing flooding in the canals of Kadarsa and Sangrampura areas. Children were trapped in school. The fire department rescued the children. The civil hospital was also flooded. Due to which the patients faced great difficulty. There are chances of rain in the state for the next 5 days.

Rain fell in 21 districts of Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal and Indore on Wednesday. Khandwa has received 2.3 inches of rain in 9 hours. In Uttar Pradesh's Mathura, several areas were inundated with two to three feet of water due to rain. The registry office was flooded again.

Heavy rain alert in 7 states on September 27

  • According to the Meteorological Department, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat may receive heavy to very heavy (12 cm) rainfall.
  • Heavy rain alert is in place in Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
