Monsoon tracker in the country: Floods in 21 districts of UP; Ganga floods in Bihar, rescue of 110 people; Alert in 19 states including MP

More than 500 villages in 21 districts of Uttar Pradesh are under flood-like conditions. Rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Ghaghra, Sharda and Sarayu have been flooded. A youth got stuck in the flowing water on the state highway in Shahjahanpur. He died due to drowning.

Due to heavy rains in the hills, the water level of the Ganga has risen in Bhagalpur, Munger and Begusarai in Bihar. The sanctum sanctorum at Chandika Sthana in Munger was flooded up to 5-6 feet. Traffic jams on NH-31 in Patna due to Ganges water.

Tilakmanji University of Bhagalpur has also flooded. 110 students were rescued in the university on Friday. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert in 19 states including Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

177 people died in monsoon in Himachal Some parts of Himachal Pradesh received light rain on Friday morning. Officials said 29 roads remained closed on Friday. Of these, the highest 10 roads belonged to Kangra. The state has received 573.4 mm of rainfall between June 1 and September 20. Average rainfall is 705.5 mm. So far 177 people have died in rain-related incidents. 31 people are missing.

Rain in 6 states on September 22

  • The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Rajasthan on September 22.
  • Humid conditions will also persist over Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
  • In Himachal Pradesh, there is a warning of thunderstorm and lightning at many places in the state on September 25-26.

This time monsoon will be active for 16 days more than usual

  • Normally, Monsoon starts departing West Rajasthan after September 18, but this time it is likely to remain active for about 16 more days.
  • This means that the country may receive heavy rainfall till the end of September. According to the private weather agency Skymet, rains are likely in October after the departure of monsoon.
  • According to the Meteorological Department, 108 percent or 8 percent more rain has been received so far this monsoon. However, almost a fourth of the country i.e. 185 districts (26%) are under drought conditions.
  • There are 68 districts that have received 60% of the normal rainfall, 19 of which are in Rajasthan alone. The most affected are Uttar Pradesh (30 districts), Bihar (25), Jharkhand (11), Odisha (11), Punjab (15).

Reason for Monsoon to remain active for 16 more days

  • According to the Meteorological Department, a depression has formed over North-West Uttar Pradesh. It is moving towards Uttarakhand. It will also affect some parts of Himachal Pradesh.
  • There is a new low pressure area near South Bangladesh, which will turn into a depression in 2 days. This will be the fourth depression of the season. Due to which there will be rain in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
