Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti said that the next government in Jammu and Kashmir will be secular. No government will be formed here without the support of our party. PDP has emerged as the number one party in the first phase of elections.
Mehbooba sought votes for the party's candidate Varinder Singh from Jammu's Bahu assembly seat on Tuesday. He said that when the National Conference talked about joining Pakistan, it was Mufti Mohammad Saeed who raised the Indian flag in Kashmir.
Mehbooba said- Has BJP forgotten that Ram Madhav knocked on our doors for two months, asked to form government with us and said that we can make any conditions. We formed the government on those terms.
Mehbooba said the elections were important for the future of Jammu and Kashmir and asked people to vote carefully.
Big BJP leaders come here. The Prime Minister comes, the Home Minister comes, but they only oppose us. They have nothing to offer people. What are they protesting? Mufti Mohammad Saeed's party has flown the Indian flag in Kashmir since the 1960s.
Ram Madhav knocked on our doors for two months Mehbooba said – When the National Conference campaigned for independence and talked about going to Pakistan, it was Mufti Sahib who hoisted the Indian flag in Kashmir. And now they (BJP leaders) call their party anti-national.
Have they forgotten that Ram Madhav knocked on our doors for two months, asked us to form a government and said we can have any conditions. We formed the government on those terms.
7 things from Mehbooba's speech…
- Mufti Sahib ruled Jammu and Kashmir for more than three years. That period is called golden age. We gave MP to Jammu, we gave MLC to Jammu, we gave MLA to Jammu. Which party has done this?
- BJP is seeking votes from the people with the promise of providing Chief Minister from Jammu region. These are empty promises. Don't fall into their trap. Tell me he had the post of governor, why didn't he appoint a governor from Jammu?
- Why did BJP bring a governor from outside? BJP is trying to mislead you (public). If the Governor was from Jammu, Kashmiris would have respected him too as he belonged to the region and there would have been no opposition.
- Why not a single consultant from Jammu? In our time DGP was from Jammu, Chief Secretary was from Jammu. Apart from this many officers were from Jammu.
- Today BJP says vote for us we will give you Hindu Chief Minister. Is the Prime Minister of India a Muslim? Isn't the governor here a Hindu? Here is your Prime Minister and here is your Governor. So what have you got all these years?
- What did the BJP government do in the last 6 years? Jammu and Kashmir is number one in terms of unemployment. It is also number one in the use of drugs. Our electricity is being given to others.
- Smart meters have been installed here. They take money from us and give electricity to others. Sand and gravel contracts are awarded to outsiders. Liquor contracts are also outsourced.
The option has run out in Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba said on the Congress-NC alliance – When the Congress compromised in 1987, Dr. Farooq Abdullah put Rajiv Gandhi's party in his pocket. Even today this party is in the pocket of the National Conference and has not come out of it.
NC is responsible for the rise of terrorism. When NC and Congress came together, options were lost in Jammu and Kashmir. In 1987, the people of Kashmir said they would find a new alternative. When the elections were held, the National Conference cheated so much that they did not even allow an alternative to arise. You all saw the result.
