A meeting was held at Haryana Bhawan in Chandigarh on Monday (November 4) to consider the demands of farmers who have been sitting on the Shambhu border of Haryana-Punjab since February. The meeting was presided over by retired Justice Nawab Singh. Prominent faces of the peasant movement, peasant leaders Sarvan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal did not attend the meeting.
Pander refused to come to the meeting. Due to Dallewal's ill health, his members attended the meeting. The farmers presented their 12 demands before the committee constituted by the Supreme Court. The farmers made it clear that their struggle will continue until their demands are met.
Bhaskar Talking to the farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that he will start hunger strike from the next Parliament session.
Committee members arrived to attend the meeting.
He joined the government party Besides Justice Nawab Singh, the meeting was attended by former IPS officer PS Sandhu, Professor Devendra Sharma of Guru Nanak University, Amritsar, agriculture and economic expert Ranjit Singh, Dr. Sukhpal Singh, Chancellor of Haryana Agricultural University B.R. Cambodia, Chief Ministers were present. Secretary and DGP of Haryana and Punjab participated.
United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) leader Sarvan Singh Pandher rejected the committee's invitation. He has argued that the road has not been blocked by the farmers, but by the Haryana government.
The conflict has been going on since February Farmers of Punjab are on strike over guarantee of MSP on crops from February-2024. Considering the security in such a situation, the Haryana government closed the Shambhu border of Haryana and Punjab by installing barricades. After this, the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections has been implemented.
Farmers formed a permanent front on the border towards Punjab. In such a situation, traffic is stopped from there. Due to which traders of Ambala are facing difficulties. For this reason, he took refuge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court had ordered the Haryana government to open the border, but the government has approached the Supreme Court in this matter.
