Martyr Naib Subedar of Himachal dies in Panchatatva: 9-year-old son sets fire to his face, wife sobs after seeing husband's dead body; Farewell with political honours

Martyr Rakesh Kumar's 9-year-old son gave the eulogy. The last rites of the martyr were performed.

Rakesh Kumar (42), who was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, was cremated today with political honors at Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The martyr was set ablaze by his 9-year-old son. A large number of people were present during this.

His mortal remains reached Barnog in his native village Mandi today. As soon as the mortal body arrived, the family members and relatives hugged him and started crying. Hundreds of people also arrived from surrounding areas. As soon as the body of the martyr arrived, people raised slogans of 'Shaheed Amar Rahe' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.

Parthivadeh reached Mandi yesterday evening Rakesh Kumar's mortal remains were brought to the Kangnidhar helipad in Mandi in a helicopter from Jammu yesterday evening. From there he came to Nerchok Medical College. The body was brought to his native village at 8 am today. The body has been kept at the martyr's house for last darshan. After this the last rites were performed.

Rakesh returned to duty after taking leave a week ago According to the family, Rakesh Kumar had returned to duty a week ago after celebrating Diwali and was martyred in an encounter with militants in Kishtwar on Sunday (November 10) after his leave was over. He held the rank of Junior Commissioned Officer in the Army.

Rakesh was a father of 2 children. He is survived by mother Bhati Devi, wife Bhanu Priya and two children Yashaswi (14) and Pranav (9).

14 months ago, a 10-room house collapsed in the rain According to information, the 10-room house of martyr Rakesh Kumar collapsed on the night of 13 August 2023 during the rainy season. Since then, Rakesh Kumar's family has been living in a rented house. According to Bhai Karm Singh, Rakesh was to come on leave in December.

Security forces launched a joint search operation in Kishtwar after receiving information that the terrorists were hiding. Deputy Subedar Rakesh Kumar was also included in this team. Meanwhile, during the search, two terrorists were surrounded in the remote forest of Kishtwar's Kuntwara and Keshawan.

The spot is said to be a few kilometers away from where the bodies of two Village Defense Guard (VDG) members, Nazir Ahmed and Kuldeep Kumar, were found on November 7. It was here during the search that there was an encounter with the terrorists. Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar was martyred due to bullet injury. Also, 3 jawans were injured. He is undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister and former Chief Minister expressed grief Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu condoled the martyrdom of Rakesh Kumar in an encounter with terrorists and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. He said that Rakesh Kumar's martyrdom will always be remembered. Along with this, former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur also expressed grief over the martyrdom of the soldier. He said that the country will always be indebted to his sacrifice. May God rest his departed soul in peace at his feet.
