Manoharlal Khattar is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a former campaigner of the RSS. He represented the Karnal constituency in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Manoharlal Khattar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana for the first time on 26 October 2014 after the BJP's victory in the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections. After the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the BJP formed an alliance with the Janayak Janata Party and Khattar was sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time on 27 October 2019.

Who is Manoharlal Khattar?

Khattar was born on 5 May 1954 in Nindana village of Meham taluka in Rohtak district of Haryana in a Punjabi Hindu family. After the partition of India in 1947, his father Harbans Lal Khattar came from Jhang district of West Punjab and settled here. Khattar did his matriculation from Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government College, Rohtak. After this he ran a shop near Sadar Bazar while completing his graduation degree from Delhi University.

During this time Khattar joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and became a full-time campaigner three years later. As a preacher he is celibate for life. Before joining the BJP in 1994, he worked as a full-time campaigner for 14 years.

Between 2000-2014, Khattar was the general secretary of the BJP organization in Haryana. He was the Chairman of BJP's Haryana Election Campaign Committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. After this he became a member of the National Working Committee of the BJP. In the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections, Khattar won the Karnal constituency by a huge margin on a BJP ticket. BJP won majority in Haryana for the first time and Khattar became the first BJP Chief Minister of Haryana. After the 2019 Haryana assembly elections, Khattar was sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time in alliance with Dushyant Chautala's Janayak Janata Party.
