Today, October 20, Sunday, the BJP announced the first list of candidates for the Maharashtra assembly elections. It has 99 names. Women have been given tickets on 13 seats. 6 seats are for ST and 4 seats for SC.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis will contest from South West Nagpur. Maharashtra BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been given ticket from Kamthi seat. Shrijaya Chavan, daughter of former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan, has been fielded from Bhokar assembly seat.
Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar got ticket from Colaba and Nitish Rane from Kankavali. Narvekar is under fire from the opposition for not canceling the membership of Shiv Sena and NCP MLAs. Nitesh Rane is currently in controversy for his anti-Muslim statements.
All the 288 assembly seats of Maharashtra will go to polls in one phase on November 20. The election results will be out on November 23. A by-election will also be held on November 20 in the Nanded Lok Sabha seat. Its candidate has not been announced yet.

In Maharashtra, there is a coalition government of Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP Ajit Pawar group. The division of votes between the anti-incumbency and the big six parties will be a major challenge for the Sadhana Party.
Out of the 48 seats in Maharashtra in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 30 and the NDA won 17. In which BJP got 9 seats, Shiv Sena got 7 seats and NCP got only 1 seat. BJP has lost 23 seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA won 41 seats. In 2014, this figure was 42. That is less than half.
According to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP will be reduced to around 60 seats. A survey by the opposition coalition has projected MVA or Maha Vikas Aghadi to get 160 seats out of 288 seats in the state. Maratha movement is the biggest challenge for BJP. Apart from this, people sympathize with Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar after the sabotage in Shiv Sena and NCP.

- In 2019, there was a BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. BJP won 105 and Shiv Sena 56 seats. NCP got 54 seats and Congress got 44 seats from the alliance. BJP-Shiv Sena could have easily come to power, but differences broke the alliance.
- On 23 November 2019, Fadnavis was sworn in as the Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar as the Deputy Chief Minister. It was an early morning oath, but both resigned on 26 November 2019 before the majority test. Maha Vikas Aghadi of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress came to power on 28 November 2019. After this there was a rebellion between Shiv Sena and NCP and 4 parties were formed. Sharad and Uddhav got the lead in the Lok Sabha elections. Assembly elections will be held in all this background.
