The Congress Working Committee (CWC) met in Delhi on Friday regarding the crushing defeat in the Maharashtra assembly elections. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said – one should not be disappointed with the election results. A top-down change is necessary to strengthen the party.
Khadge once again raised questions on EVMs in the meeting. He said- EVMs have made the election process questionable, the Election Commission should ensure free and fair elections.
Khadge said that no arithmetic can justify the results of the Maharashtra assembly elections. The way Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) performed in the Lok Sabha elections has also left election pundits in a quandary after seeing the assembly results.

1. Change is needed from the top down in the organization Khadge said – the less than expected performance in the state elections is a challenge for us. Lack of unity among party leaders and rhetoric against each other is hurting us in elections, strict discipline is needed. To strengthen the party, changes will have to be brought in from the grassroots level in the AICC.
2. Favorable environment means no guarantee of victory Khadge said in the meeting – Just because the election environment is in our favor is not a guarantee of victory. Hard work has to be done to formulate a time bound strategy and strengthen the party. Assembly elections have to be prepared a year in advance, voter lists have to be checked.
3. We have to improve our election strategy Khadge said- No one can justify the arithmetic results in Maharashtra. Poll pundits are confused after MVA Lok Sabha election results. We have to improve our election strategy.
4. It is important for Congress to come to power Khadge said it was important for the Congress to come to power as it would help implement the people's agenda across the country. He said that after the good results of the Lok Sabha elections, the results of the assembly elections have shocked us, we have to take strict measures.
5. Very serious issues from Manipur to Sambhal Khadge said- There are many things. From Manipur to Sambhal is a very serious issue. BJP is trying to air several religious issues through various media to divert the attention of the country from its own failures. We have to defeat the divisive forces in power at all costs. Because we have made this wonderful country.
