External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said that New Delhi wants to establish itself as a global friend and befriend more and more countries. The motive behind India's 'Vishwamitra' status is to develop friendship across the globe. In today's emerging multipower world, friendship is no longer isolated.

He said that some global partners (countries) can be more complicated than others in the world, because they may not always share a culture of mutual respect or principles of diplomatic etiquette.

Freedom for one, interference for another Jaishankar said, 'We have seen comments on our domestic issues from time to time. However, the other party (country) is rarely accorded the same courtesy. What is freedom for one may be interference for another. The fact remains that sensitivities such as sovereignty and territorial integrity will always factor into the assessment of partners.

Three changes in PM Modi's leadership Jaishankar said that there have been three changes in the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. First, the US, Japan and Australia benefited from the QUAD partnership, these countries overcoming historical shyness. Second, India's broader ties with UAE-Israel are developing.

Jaishankar said that all the changes in Russia-France statements on multipolarity in the last decade are the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal interest and leadership. Credit for this should go to the PM.

Remember that at least three of them have not seen a single high-level visit in three decades, he said. In other cases we were under pressure to limit communication or in some cases to clear long-standing ideological doubts.
